Glam Tip! Fix Your Broken Shadows, Blush or Powder in 3 Easy Steps!

photo(2)

This weeks Glam Tip comes from Make Life Lovely and I had to post this one because I know every lady that likes make up has experienced a broken eye shadow, powder or blush.  For me I try to salvage it but gathering all the broken pieces and using them.  Such a hassle & it can get very messy.  But I’m not the type to just throw it away either.

So here is a way to fix your broken eye shadows, powders & blushes in 3 Easy Steps!!

  1. Put a few drops of Rubbing Alcohol into the shadow, powder or blush.  An easy way to do this is by using a dropper to ensure you don’t use too much alcohol.
  2. Use a a spoon to smash the broken and loose compact powder back into the flat form of the compact.
  3. Let the powder sit and settle for 3 to 4 days!

It’s that simple!  Also a fun thing to do would be to combine or mix colors to make a custom look if you dare to be that bold!

Frank Lloyd Wright Oak Park Home & Studio

My love affair with architecture began when I was in grade school, my moms friend was in college seeking a degree and used to pay me to type his papers for him

That’s the first time I heard the name Frank Lloyd Wright and I instantly fell in love with his work.
He constructed this massive home in 1889 in Oak Park Illinois a suburb of Chicago. Wright paid $5K for the the build and the land. Our the years he added and expanded the home totaling over 2K square feet. This home was the birth place for his prairie style architecture and the start of great American arciletual history.

It’s been on my bucket list to see as many of his designs as possible but to tour his actual home was amazing.  I’m thankful to be able to do things for myself that make me smile.  Highly recommended!

Beauty Dilemma Solved: Maximizing the life of your lipstick

Beauty Dilemma Solved: Maximizing the life of your lipstick

By: Faith Nicole

We’ve all been there. We have finally found our go to lipstick that we wear nearly every day and now the tube is gone. Or so you think. You see cosmetic companies have been tricking you into thinking that your lipstick tube is empty when it’s not. There is surprisingly quite a bit of lipstick left; enough to last at least another few weeks.

I first showed Nia this trick about a month or so ago when she thought her lipstick was all gone. I showed her a method commonly used by makeup artists called “depotting.” Basically you take the product from one container and move it into another one. For professionals, we do this to cut down on the size of our kit. For consumers, this method is helpful for maximizing the length of your product.

To do this at home all you need is your lipstick, a small spatula of some sort and another container. You can use the back of a makeup brush, back of a piece of silverware or some other small object that will fit into the small diameter of the lipstick tube. You can use an empty pill organizer or a cute silver tin to put the excess lipstick in.

Basically you take your spatula and stick it in the lipstick tube. You want to scrape it out so that you get as much of the product out as possible. Then you simply transfer it to your empty tin. You can use a lip brush to put your lipstick on now and you can take it on the go! If you want it to be smooth again it is possible but you have to be careful. You can simply melt the product on a low temperature in the oven. Be careful with plastic so you don’t melt it as well!

And that’s all there is to it! Oh and if you want a quicker way to free lipstick from a certain brand sold at department store, this is a quicker way to get there!

How To Grow Hair Naturally By Eating

At some point in all of our lives we want to grow our hair.  Whether you’re trying to grow out bangs or trying to grow out layers from that style you had to have last season it can be rough.

My hair dresser always told me that hair reacts to what you put in your body.  So naturally if you put good foods in your body, your hair will react positively.

So I know what you’re thinking what foods will help my hair to grow my naturally?  Here’s a break down of  foods to get your follicles stimulated and your tresses growing.

  • Dark leafy greens such as kale, collard, spinach etc are full of iron that encourages growth.  Try baking your own kale chips to snack on or having a kale and spinach salad for lunch instead of a burger.
  • Strengthen your hair with biotin heavy foods such as eggs.  Boil one or a snack or scramble one for breakfast a few times a week to ward off brittle hair.
  • Protein is also essential to strengthening your hair and avoiding breakage.  But the key is eating lean protein.  Try grilling skinless chicken or turkey instead of a steak for dinner.
  • Adding omega-3 fatty acids to your diet with give your tresses shine for days.  Eat plenty of grilled salmon and snack on organic nuts to help your hair shine!
  • Beans are a wonderful source of protein, iron, zinc, and biotin.  All essential nutrients to growing your hair naturally.

In addition to helping your hair grow, these foods will help your waistline stay slim if you eat them consistently.   Pair these healthy foods with a daily dose of a natural hair, skin, nail vitamin and you’ve cracked the ultimate code on how to grow your hair naturally.

Happy eating and happy growing!

Something I’ve heard my elders talk about many times and I’ve never tried, until now, is castor oil.  Castor oil is used for many home remedies to cure a cold, the flu and more but I’ve recently be introduced to how it can make your eye lashes and brows grow.  It is said that castor oil is rich in natural fats that promote healthy hair growth.

I recently read how to do it in a simple statement from dermatologist Dr. Joshua Zeichner, director of cosmetic and clinical research at Mount Sinai Hospital in NYC.

Supplies Needed:

  1. A bottle of 100% pure natural organic Castor oil
  2. Disposable mascara application wands

How to:

Dip your brush into the bottle of castor oil.  Be sure to tap off the excess oil.  Apply to your lashes from the base to the tip/brush through your natural brow line.  Do this nightly before bed.

Results vary but you should see growth in approximately a month.  Take a picture before your very first application and another after a couple of months to chart your growth.

Happy growing and be sure to comment on your growth below!  🙂

Fill your jar or bowl with extremely hot water from the faucet.  Place the bottle of nail polish upside down in your jar/bowl full of water.  Let sit for 2 minutes.

Remove the bottle and attempt to open.  If you aren’t able to open the bottle repeat the full process with fresh hot water.

Once you get the bottle open use nail polish remover and a paper towel to clean off any access polish for the top of the bottle.
